JOB DUTIES: This clerical position performs technical support/assistance to the Environmental Health Section. Primary duties are providing customer service, collecting fees and processing daily deposits, assisting clients with requests, screening and directing phone calls, coordination of all daily mail operations, and researching, retrieving and documenting technical information. Duties also include compiling data and creating reports, maintaining and managing files.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: In depth knowledge of computer operations and experience in data entry. General knowledge of office and work unit procedures, methods and practices. General knowledge of and ability to use correct spelling, punctuation and specialized vocabulary; ability to proofread. General knowledge of office accounting and record keeping procedures, mathematics and their application in the work environment. Ability to learn and apply a variety of guidelines. Ability to use a variety of office equipment. Ability to work with people with courtesy and tact. Ability to screen communications based on predetermined guidelines and independently respond to or accurately route inquiries. Ability to record and compile information based on general guidelines. Ability to collect and disseminate information, provide instructions regarding the work process or procedures. Ability to balance and reconcile figures. Ability to learn and operate specialized office equipment.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL ABILITIES: Medium type work (exerting up to 50 lbs. of force) with physical abilities that include: climbing, balancing, lifting, carrying, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing for long periods of time, walking, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking and hearing. Subject to repetitive motion of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers. Close visual acuity required to perform duties such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, operating computer terminal, and for extensive reading. Visual acuity is required to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned. Subject to inside environmental conditions such as temperature changes. May be exposed to blood or body fluids in performance of job duties.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from high school and demonstrated possession of knowledge, skills and abilities gained through at least two years of office assistant/secretarial experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS: Valid N.C. driver's license and have access to a personal vehicle.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Fluent in Spanish and English languages in both oral and written form.
