ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: Seeking an outgoing, knowledgeable individual competent in many different aspects of high-risk nutritional care.  This position requires a Registered Dietitian (registration through the Commission on Dietetic Registration) with 2-5 years of experience preferred. Requires the ability to perform thorough assessments of high-risk infants, children and women in the WIC Program. Ability to provide MNT services in the health department and for community partners.   Representative of agency nutrition program services to physicians by phone or in office visits.  CDE or interest in obtaining certification, background or strong interest in research studies and grant funding highly desirable.  Assist WIC Director in mentoring students.  WIC experience a plus. 

 

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:  Advanced knowledge and skill in comprehensive nutrition assessment and care planning, including problem diagnosis, counseling, and evaluation of clients from diverse backgrounds and ages, with multiple complex, high-risk medical needs. Thorough knowledge and skills in theoretical principles and practices of normal and clinical nutrition and dietetics, particularly in areas of disease pathophysiology and medical rehabilitation. Advanced, in-depth expertise in a clinical specialty area preferred. Advanced level of knowledge in case management and care coordination, health care ethics, medical record documentation, quality improvement and management of nutrition services desired. Advanced skill in interpreting nutrition standards to other health professionals and the public is needed. Advanced level of knowledge of the organization and delivery of medical, hospital, hospice, and home care in the community, of medical terminology, and of the roles of the various members of the interdisciplinary health care team. Ability to adapt to emerging or newly developed methods and interventions. Ability to prepare and justify budget requests as well as, monitor, analyze, and manage allocated resources. Basic skill in the consultation process. Strong knowledge of current scientific information regarding nutrition, diet, and health and the ability to relate this information to clients, professionals, and the public. Full range of skill in conducting a nutrition education or community needs assessment. Proven ability to interpret policy and protocols into operational procedures and work priorities. Ability to organize and coordinate the work of others. Requires the ability to clearly and precisely present ideas orally and in writing.

 

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL ABILITIES: Medium type work (exerting up to 50 lbs. of force) with physical abilities that include: climbing, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing (for sustained periods of time), walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking and hearing.  Subject to repetitive motion of the wrist, hands, or fingers.  Require close visual acuity for job duties such as transcription, extensive reading, operating computer terminal and measurement devices; and ability to work outside and inside extreme environmental conditions.  May be exposed to blood or body fluids in performance of job duties.

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:  Bachelor's degree in foods and nutrition, public health nutrition, or dietetics from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in nutrition and ADA Commission on Registration eligibility; or Master's degree in nutrition or public health nutrition from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience in nutrition, plus ADA Commission on Registration eligibility; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:  Valid N.C. driver's license and have access to a personal vehicle.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Fluent in Spanish and English languages, ability to communicate both in oral and written manner.
